Delta Reports Increase in First Quarter Profit
Delta Air Lines announced financial results for the first quarter of 2014.
The Atlanta-based airline reported a profit of $281 million, an increase of $196 million from $85 million in the first quarter of 2013.
Revenue for the first quarter showed a year-over-year increase of 5%, or $416 million, to $7.677 billion. Passenger revenue per available seat mile, or Prasm, increased by 3.2% year-over-year.
The airline said that the increase in revenue occurred in spite of a loss of $90 million in revenue in the first quarter due to weather-related flight cancellations.
Passenger traffic for the quarter increased by 4% year-over-year to 44.601 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, while capacity increased 2% to 53.904 billion available seat miles, or ASMs.
The airline’s load factor in Q1 also showed an increase of 1.5 percentage points to 82.7%, up from 81.2% in the first quarter of last year.
