A United Airlines Airbus 319 plane approaching takeoff on a flight from Denver to Reno went off the runway Sunday night due to a mechanical problem, Denver International Airport officials said.

“Nobody was hurt,” DIA spokesman Heath Montgomery said.

United Flight 296 was approaching the departure runway and then veered off the runway onto a grassy buffer area, Montgomery said.

“There was some kind of mechanical failure. The aircraft went off the paved surface a few feet. Then it stopped,” he said.

DIA officials have sent buses toward the aircraft and will carry passengers back to the airport terminal.

“It will be United’s responsibility to accommodate those folks,” Montgomery said.

“Obviously they are going to stop that flight and check out that aircraft.”
