I was told th fuel selector could be confusing in this particular plane.

All 3 souls on board were prominent members of the Civil Air Patrol. Very sad.

The line in this version of the story that this plane '... had been parked in a hangar for a month ,,,' tells it all IMHO. Isn't checking the fuel for water etc the first thing you do?

Wait for the accident report as it should have a much better idea than any off hand comments made at this time will. Many things can make an engine not produce power and sound strange to some.

Reg owner is not the one listed for the AC that went down. Check the news reports as the owners were not on the AC when it crashed.

Do you have any evidence indicating that the fuel wasn't checked? If not, you're jumping to conclusions.

True, but aren't you also jumping to a conclusion by assuming that it was checked? And I did say 'IMHO', as I've seen a similar crash many years ago, where a very experienced pilot made that mistake, and I have also witnessed many private pilots forgetting to check the tanks.

As Boyd said, perhaps we should keep our opinions out of the forum and just wait for the accident report.
