Nobody Wants the A380 and That’s Breeding Creativity
There isn’t anything quite like the A380. The airplane is enormous, and frankly, it is a true delight to fly (as a passenger, at least). The cabin design feels spacious, you can barely hear any engine noise, and it handles turbulence well. From an airline perspective, however, it’s the economics that matter most. And in most cases, the A380 just doesn’t work. (crankyflier.com) Daha Fazlası...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Great article 44. The kiss of death was the second deck and lack of removeability (if that's even a word), and on top of that the thing cubes out before it weighs out.
Correct. The Anatov 225 is really the only heavy lift that can handle oversized loads for that reason. Supposedly Airbus had a freighter version they cancelled but I suspect it had the same issues.
From what I understand the reason they canceled the freighter verison was because they were behind on the passabger verison and were pulling people from the freight type to get the passabger type up faster. FedEx and ups who both has orders saw this as a sign that they were getting there planes any time soon so they canceled there orders which in turn made airbus cancel the freighter verison due to no orders.
Sorry for the typo's
I would think that the death of the 380 would rekindle the 478 a bit...EK wants a reengined 380, but isn't that what the 478 basically is? A few less seats, but more efficient power plants, cheaper, fits into more airports, has a good chunk more range and future. I'd think that there might be some crossover in parts/maintenance with the 77x as well. Throw a shower in that sucker and you have EK's big daddy of the future. Someone may know the answer to this more than I, but doesn't EK configure their ac with a large flight crew 'box' for food, rest, etc..? I'd think with the additional sq footage below in the 478's cargo-hold , that you could utilize that space in order to get some more seats in...getting it closer to the 380 capacity, but less cost per mile. And most importantly...you would be replacing the ugliest airliner of all time with the most beautiful bird ever built!!!!!
