Sort type: [chronological] [karma]
Yes exactly Dave, the wings, main landing gear and even the cowls are pure Bandeirante, but mated to a short but circular cross section pressurized fuselage, with a T tail.

Nice! Below is the distinctive 1960s-era externally-braced hangar, part of the Signature complex, northeast of the approach end of RW05L.

The 121 is unfortunately not a well known aircraft type, but she has a helluva lot going for her in this great shot when shown in full.

Yes, it is an old photo. You can see that this pic was posted 15 years ago. Must all old photos be deleted because their N numbers have changed? Please delete your comment. The pic can stay.

Correction on the 737-300 tail number posted above, it was N647SW that wore this scheme, not 367.
Written on 27-03-2024 by John Giambone
Good catch Kaden. Just an fyi, the 737-7H4 that previously carried this scheme was worn by N409WN which has been repainted in to normal SWA colors. There was a 737-300 that also preceded the -700, and flew with this scheme, and that was carried on N367SW.

A great photo and thanks for the nostalgia moment. Growing up in the UK in the 50s these were a familiar sight around my local RAF airfield

I was around those many a time during my MAC/AMC days. Part of our training as an Air Transportation Specialist, we were required to be able to load plan them, as well as the other aircraft. It was a true workhorse. They we used on the European Eagle channel missions with a mix of cargo and Space-A pax.

The C-141 was the big workhorse of the Vietnam big-build-up. I remember that the C-141 38077 was a "Lead the Force" aircraft. One night on a landing at Clark AB Philippines, one of the guards on horseback around the AB perimeter, the horse escape from his rider while the rider was off the horse. The horse spooked and ran out onto the runway just as 38077 was landing, and yes, 38077 hit the horse. It severely damaged 38077, not to mention what it did to the horse. After all these years I cannot remember how long 38077 was on the ground at Clark being repaired, but it was a long time. They finally did get it repaired enough for an approved one-time-flight back to the US. Don't know what happened to it after that.

I purchased this plane in 1995 and sold it in 2018. After a career flying jets all over the world this was one of my favorite airplanes. I had a smooth feel like a heavy jet. Cruising at FL250 was smooth and very quiet. Retired now it still comes to mind what a pleasure flying 87GK was for me.

In my hangar at AVQ, Jan 2018. I owned this airplane for 47 years, since 1971 early in my flying career. It was flown across the country several times. It was like a member of the family that contributed to eventually flying jets all over the world. I hated to sell this plane as it was dear to me.
