Cessna Super Skymaster (N2417S)
N2417S climbing out of College Park Airport's runway 33 for a flight back to Wilmington
Comments
flew one of these in SA from Lima to Hauncayo 13M ft and then down into the jungle to San Ramon at +/- 2mft.
Was FAR135 check airman for outfit that owned 4-5 Turbo 337's and a straight 337 which we used as Air Attack platforms with Federal fire fighting missions mainly out West. I sent the straight 337 back home in NC from Ely, Nevada after only getting 19' manifold pressure on take off. The turbos were very good high and hot airplanes with a single engine ceiling of 14,000'.
Nice looking Mixer!
My all time favorite Cessna. Not sure but I was told this is the easiest small plane to fly.
wish I could give 9 *********
Interesting in its time. Replaced with a single engine turboprop today with more cabin room and cargo space, and much faster. No need to build this one again.
Had my my first airplane flight in one of these 50 years ago. Now a retired Airline Captain...
A real pleasure to fly. Spent hundreds of hours in push/pulls doing multiple tasks. A little bit of a slug on single engine performance, but got me home a few times on one engine.
Firs Aircraft I ever photographed was one of these at YYC still have the shot. This was the plane that got me interested in aircraft.
The C336 Skymaster was actually a nice plane and performed at least average for a light twin. Cessna then constantly degraded it thru the years until the P337 model. I took one on a two hour trip lightly loaded and couldn't get 600/fpm out of it.
Interesting comment Bill. I've often wondered how the Pressurized model would perform, with a Max Gross Weight of 4700 pounds.
Apparently a controller, unsure of the aircraft type called and asked
"Gulf Kilo Mike ___, are you a Skymaster?" The reply came back immediately
"Negative, but I am working on my Commercial license".
