This photo was taken mid 1970s,latest time July 1976. Production search shows serial number 46150, line number 539. Delivery date shows 31 March 1979 as a cargo configuration.
Wrong, this is a DC-30 using the original -and very noisy- P&W JT4A engines with roundish cowling and distinct exhaust "flute" noise attenuator and reverse clam shells and flew only until the mid-60s when there were superceded by the DC-8-60s series fitted with more efficient JT3D turbofan engines, cowlings were streamlined and the noise was more civilized.
Typo correction, this aircraft is a DC-8-30, the rest is OK
Aircraft type doesn't accept DC83. However it accept DC86, have gone with that as it will show the manufacturer.
Chalet,thanks for your comment,the photo was taken mid 1970s. I was stationed at RAAF Base Butterworth 1974-August 1976.
