The good old 717....built shortly after the 707 and right before the 727 started flying. Good to see 'em still in the air.

I think you may have the 717 confused with the DC-9. The 717 didn't start flying until the late 1990s.

The 717 only came about after the MD/Boeing merger.
It was a stretched MD90 that Boeing called the 717 so they could use a code they had never used and so that they didnt use up a consecutive code which would have been 777. Because the 777 was already in consideration.
