Have just been on a Bullet train in China and what a great thing to build in Australia, but have seen the Chinese build a new subway in Chengdu in around 12 months. So I agree with David get another country to show us how it is done

China doesn't have a problem with terrorists. They just kill anyone they think might be a threat. In Aus. and US we don't do that. No way to protect a high speed train over hundreds of miles. Won't work in today's political climate. Easy target. In a perfect world, great way to travel.

What an insult to the Australian construction industry is this? Come on, they have to be joking, or stupid, or have a different agenda........

I wouldn't get too excited about it. There's an election coming up and they always get the fast train set out of the toy box at this time. They will put it back in the toy box after the election. They almost had us convinced in 1987 with the VFT project but it was put back in the box. Then there are the arguments over the station locations which means that more stops slows the train down. Just another Govt con to divert people's attention from the real issues.

Agree with Brian. A disaster waiting to happen. How about getting the massive trucks off the roads & highways & using freight rail between MEL, SYD & BNE ? As usual, the big business agenda of the federal government means that no sensible decisions are ever likely to be taken.

Agree with Brian. This the sacred cow that gets paraded around for every federal election. 45 years to build...well they coud import some Japanese contractors in to do it. I think it would half the time and the budget. 45 years to build includes 30 years of parliamentary debate

Population of Australia is what 30mil, every year this high speed train topic comes up and 2 weeks later they say the cost is too high, plus the population of Australia is not increasing fast enough to justify such a project.
