Laser Attack Forces Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787 Dreamliner Diversion

A Virgin flight had to turn back after an incident with a laser beam. The aircraft was operating flight VS453 from London Heathrow to Tel Aviv, Israel, when a laser struck the cockpit. Out of an abundance of caution, the crew turned back to Heathrow, landing safely at the airport an hour and a half later. The captain was becoming ‘increasingly challenged’ following the attack. Out of caution, the pilots decided to head back to London. The flight declared a ‘pan-pan’ to ATC and turned about over… (simpleflying.com) Daha Fazlası...

I bet that these total Idiots pointing a laser beam at an Aircraft would Never do it IF their family members were on such a flight ? Mindless actions by people that should be locked up for at least Five Years !!!! I am sorry that the flight crew and the passengers had to endure such an event.

Might depend on the family member.

Well gee am sure they really care about anything or anybody when doing it and are probably pos to start with. Just like the drone so called pilots causing problems. Now those of use who fly MODEL airplanes got lumped with that bunch and will be restricted on any flying we do outdoors. We have never created a problem at any time any where.

Got green laser tagged in the cockpit some years back in a C650 turning base to final to 31L at DAL. Anyone really familiar with Big D knows the socio economic jungle that flight path takes one over by necessity. I bet less than 1 in 50 of its inhabitants has ever been 'on' a commercial jet, and 1 in a million on a corporate jet. They don't know or care about anyone on one either!

What is meant by "was becoming increasingly challenged"? Are we to understand that the pilot's sight was effected by the laser?

I think you mean "affected" because I really don't see that laser as helping his vision.

Yeah, Mike, that caught my attention as well. They turned back over Paris and landed 90 minutes later, after declaring an emergency.

I recall (when during the mid-'50s as a 6 yr old), trying to make airliners crash by angling a mirror at the sun toward them. A dumb kid thing I guess.
