Video: China Airlines Boeing 747 crashes into baggage carts at Chicago O’Hare Airport

eklendi

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — On Saturday, January 29, a China Airlines cargo Boeing 747-400F at Chicago O’Hare Airport crashed into baggage carts while taxiing. The incident did not result in any injuries. The aircraft, before landing in Chicago, Illinois, had operated cargo flights between Taipei, Taiwan, and Anchorage, Alaska. (www.airlinerwatch.com) Daha Fazlası...

Snow on ground obscured lines on taxiway so either 747 or parked carts were out of position, along with poor lighting so crew didn't see or perceive how close they were to carts. Typical Swiss cheese, several factors aligned to lead to incident.

srobak 1
Their report was that they thought they were following the centerline for the taxiway - when it turns out they were following the edge line instead, and the rest of the taxi markings were obscured by snow.

Really? How many hours do you have in a 747 that you make this pronouncement with such certainty?

Don't need experience in that make and model to criticize careless taxiing.

In bad weather with reduced viz, if you're not sure where you are, you slow down. Better, you stop and ask Ground for guidance or ask Company for a lead truck.

I can't speak for Bonnie, but I have 27 years in the bird, and I whole heartedly agree with her "pronouncement."
Lib4ever
I have only 20 years, most in the 737 but a good deal of that time has been flying in Canada, Alaska, and Northern Europe. I know that taxiing on ramps covered with snow and ice, with high wind and more snow blowing through the air is not easy. Certainly not easy enough to warrant a toss-off comment like Bonnie's. Let's wait on the results of the investigation before we begin pontificating about excuses.

The 27 years was just in the 747. Many more in DC-10, 777, and A350...

Coming in hot!

It's kinda funny to see a cart disappear into the engine -- I'm surprised we didn't see flames coming out the other end. I bet that engine is toast...

But, if you looked closely, black smoke came out of the tailpipe in droves. I’ll guarantee that that engine is definitely toast.

If that didn't start as a retirement flight, it sure ended as one.

Another idiotic comment. It's hilarious as long as misfortune doesn't fall on your shoulders.

Looking at the video at the end of the article, it looks like the pilot got lost or slide into the baggage carts. There's probably a lot more damage to the aircraft than the first picture.
sparkie624

If he was empty he was probably sliding... Those planes have very little contact to the ground while empty... If he was loaded, was probably pilot error...
linbb
linbb 1
If you watch the video of it YES it was sliding and also if it was not would not have been there. If it was something something sure did happen didnt it?

Edward Dexter 1
Yeah, there were pieces of debris, black smoke, and one big gout of flame shooting out of at least one of the port engines. Toast indeed.
srobak
srobak 1
He was turning (arcing) not sliding. If you read his report he says he thought they were following the centerline for the taxiway - when it turns out they were following the edge line instead, and the rest of the taxi markings were obscured by snow.

Well, if there is enough duct tape on board the crew will have the damage repaired in time to stay on schedule. They are a resourceful lot.

They simply cut it a little too close while making a feint at the terminal to emphasize their rightful hegemony over their traditional ramp area.

That's not even close to being funny. Just add it to the pile of crass, shallow, tasteless humor attempted whenever a highly regrettable incident occurs. I've had a belly full of moronic comments like this.

An expensive BO BO. Regardless of why it happened we know who will catch the heat. Command is between a rock and a hard place. Nobody hurt. The boneyards have got cowlings and engines.
