Eh, that was the spare tire. That's why they put 2 up there lol

MCO had a cold front moving through at the time of landing. We had a 40min window where there were sustained winds around 40mph with gusts over 60.

This poor guy was trying to land during that front

Are some airlines perhaps once again compelling their pilots to attempt such risky landings in the name of extra cost avoidance by diverting to another safer landing conditions airport
bchandl13
No? Do you have evidence that was ever the case? Can you show me where UA instructed them to attempt the landing? Or any airline ever telling pilots to land at a Wx affected airport and not diverting as it would adversely impact their employment?

It is up to the pilot.

Did I ever state that I know so? I can only suggest that you look up the statistics of serious final approach and landing crashes that occurred over the past 3-4 decades, the majority during severe weather conditions. Do you truly believe that the PIC's in many cases took chances for iffy, if not serious landing events, and if so, perhaps knowing the extremely high costs to the airline of flight diversion to other airports.

By saying once again you are directly implying it happened previously. So where is your proof

At least there were no Fatalities, and I doubt any injuries... (Except to the Nose Gear Assembly!). This was definitely pilot error, but this probably will be shared with Maintenance as well!

I'm not saying airliners should survive carrier-type landings, but this didn't look that hard (although I could not visual the side-loads). Maybe the mfrs should reconsider design requirements.
