Delta looks to shift traffic from Tokyo to Seoul
Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) is looking to route its Asian traffic increasingly through Seoul Incheon where it has a "fabulous" partner in the form of Korean Air (KE, Seoul Incheon) and away from Tokyo Narita, CEO Ed Bastian said at a Business Travel News conference. Surprised that NWA didn't do this earlier. They did have a decent network going into RJAA, but they had no connection to any SkyTeam affiliated airline at any airport they flew to in Japan. Shifting that to RKSI, where they are already in bed with KAL and other SkyTeam affiliates is a no-brainer, though they still may need to leave a couple of routes going to Japan, as those routes are lucrative.
DAL now flies their new A350/359s on this route from DTW and also ATL to Seoul. That is possibly an added attraction for their passengers. KAL used to fly an A380 to ATL but is back to 777 I believe.
No; it is the 747-8i.
Thanks. I think there was a 777 on the route for a while. I had not tracked the change. Wonder if the 748 and 777 have a common type rating?
