Airbus mimics nature with 'Bird of Prey' concept plane

Airbus (AIR.PA) on Friday unveiled a concept aircraft with splayed wingtips and a fanned tail inspired by the feathers of an eagle as it experiments with “biomimicry” technology that could eventually lead to quieter landings and less pollution. (uk.reuters.com) Daha Fazlası...

While the name kinda fits what it looks like, I don't think any airline's marketing people would go anywhere near a name like that for a passenger aircraft.

might work....might not. There are already concepts with more normal looking wing shapes but incorporating multiple ailerons with a variety of configurations including split surfaces and winglets...and no vertical tail. See X48B. This seems to mimic a birds wing quite well and with intuitively less drag. But that's just a swag....interested to see how it pans out.

Well, I guess it comes full circle. Many early aviation pioneers started using (or at least attempting) some form of biomimicry, such as wing warping and ornithopter flapping wing design.

I guess the airfoil shape itself began as a form of biomimicry.

Sometimes I read the synopsis, other times the comments - maybe the article lol..

Plese click the article and see the artist concepts. “Individual feather aka active flight control”

No positive or negative opinion.. but you’ve gotta see that drawing.
