90-Year-Old Pearl Harbor Survivor Bumped From Flight to Remembrance Ceremony
A 90-year-old survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor was bumped from a flight to Hawaii where he was headed to be part of an annual remembrance ceremony....More great PR work by United PR department. Looking up track of this flight would indicate the PR people are lying in their corporate teeth. (foxnewsinsider.com) Daha Fazlası...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
WTF? How about just removing some cargo or baggage? Out of thousands of flights, I have never once been aware of people being denied boarding due to weight issues. But if it had to happen, they should have asked for volunteers for compensation, similar to an overbooked situation. Further, I would guess that at least one of the pilots was retired military, and I'm sure they could have found a way to get the guy on if they were aware of the situation. Amazing!
If you look up the FA link below, you'll see they're flying 738s on this route, which might not easily be able to make it all the way out to Hawaii (with full weight) especially when the winds aren't favorable.
I don't believe that any airline would deny boarding to a paying passenger (especially a 90 y.o. WWII vet heading to Pamearl Harbor remembrance) unless they had an underlying reason, like their weight was limited due to range and wx.
The airline can't just run out of gas flying over the ocean on the way to the islands. (they could if they took off overweight without sufficient fuel, but should prefer not to)

Someone should have stood aside.. No reason for this... For those of us who can sit here at our computer and chat here can only doing because of Vets like this man. Just lost some major respect for United.
It's just reflects on the kind of individuals they can get when hiring at McPeon's wages.
The employee's IQ should be well below that of a donkey´s but worse off are the guys who hired him or her. Great going United.
Would've cost nothing to ask for volunteers to give up their seat for a 90-year old WWII veteran present at Pearl Harbor on the day that will live in infamy. Then fly the man first class with a free upgrade. (Give the volunteer a free upgrade to first class voucher.)
The airline could've gotten quite a lot of great positive publicity for FREE (upgrade to an empty seat costs nothing - the passengers have already paid a fare).
If the info in this report us correct, here's the flight data:
