After a woman tested positive for Covid-19 midflight, the bathroom became her seat for the next few hours. (www.cnn.com) Daha Fazlası...

This is a ridiculous story. If she "suddenly developed" a sore throat, why not just put on a mask take some fluids, and keep her mouth shut. Why tie up a toilet that has no safety features, ie: a seat belt? This is just stupidity in the highest order.

Isn't time to stop testing after the plane is boarded? This shouldn't even be a story.

Sp many holes in this story. First she was from Michigan, and no mention as to how she boarded without taking the required test. Now she's from Chicago and had taken NINE (9) tests in 48 hrs before the flight. Icelandair will confirm all of this. The rapid tests everyone is clamoring for don't work all that well. Only an antibody test does - adminstered at a hospital 72-96hrs for results. If you have the antibodies you don't need the vax or a mask. This is the beginning of tyranny.

Matt, you're wrong. The antibody test simply reveals whether you've been exposed to the disease. It does not guarantee immunity. Second, the test you are mean to refer to is a PCR test, which detects particles of the virus. While more accurate than an antigen test, it can display more false positives. Either way, there is no immunity, but the best protection, personally and globally, is the vaccine and a properly worn mask.

All correct Craig. The problem is that 99.99% of masks are either not effective and/or properly worn. Masks, as what people do today, do nothing to prevent the transmission of illness and by many studies help to spread it by their use. Face diapers may make some people feel good but that is the best they do.
djames225
djames225 3
So what you are implying is, since they are 99.99% ineffective, if we all ditched these "masks" today, the transmission rate would remain a constant and there would not be a tremendous upward spike?

Bingo! But don’t sweat omicold. When you get it you probably will not even know it. Fam went through it recently. Low grade fever and congestion was the worst of it for us old folk.

Omicold!!! Epic! I'm stealing that.
djames225

Not Bingo..not all who get COVID, be it 1st strain, Delta, Omicron, get it the same. I have had Omicron...headaches, mid grade fever, sneezing and a rotten taste in my mouth.

The only people who should wear a mask are people who have COVID and are around others.
djames225
djames225 1
Those who don't have COVID can be a carrier as well..vaccine or not!
And those masks are not 99.99% ineffective, or you would see a mortality rate a hell of a lot higher. They are not a prevention, but they are a helper. Just like all those ads you see that if you have a cold, cough into your arm. Your shirt/jacket wont necessarily prevent others getting the flu, but it helps cut down on the vapour transmission from your cough/sneeze.

djames, a few issues: 1) Asymptomatic carriers do not transmit the disease. We knew that almost from the beginning. 2) Masks have nothing to do with mortality rate. Not sure where you got that idea.
djames225
djames225 1
Ok I do not know who you are, or what you think you do. But I do know a few things.
First off COVID is not a disease, it is a virus and asym carriers can spread it. This from just 1 of a slew of medical institutes: "Even people showing no symptoms may spread the virus through contact transmission. Hence, while we have to maintain a safe distance from people showing flu-like symptoms, we also have to be aware of asymptomatic carriers who can spread the disease."
Second off perhaps you best learn how to comprehend what you read, but here let me say it in simpler terms. "If the masks, as bbabis stated and who I was responding to, are 99.99% ineffective as they suggested, then the mortality rate from COVID, should have remained constant if 99.99% of us did not wear a mask." And we know that is not true. It would have been a hell of a lot higher. The masks are not a cure all, but a small bit of prevention. Much like using a garden hose and spraying a bit of water on a huge fire while waiting for the fire responders to arrive on scene. So yes..the masks have a lot to do with the COVID mortality rate.

Technically, COVID (COVID-19) actually is a disease since it is short for "COrona VIrus Disease", and SARS-CoV-2 is the virus that causes it.

99.99% is an entirely made-up number, which means it's useless for calculations and policy.

Craig, I'm sorry, but you're clueless. 1)Antibodies are by definition immunity, and it reflects either past infection or vaccination. 2) PCRs display false positives only if performed within 3 months after actual infection. 3) Vaccines aren't protective. Sorry my friend. Whether you are vaccinated or not, you will get COVID. Guaranteed. And masks? 95% of them are not protective, particularly the way most people wear them. Don't display yourself as some know it all if you are not a medical professional actively caring for COVID patients.

This is just so wrong! If this is how we treat someone with a positive test why are we wearing masks? Were stating by this action that Vaccines and mask are totally useless and meaningless because we are still treating the situation as if there are no vaccines and no masks being worn. And as if covid is a death sentence for everyone! 99.989% survival rate!! Those people had a far better chance of dying in a plane or car wreck yet they act like morons and sheeple. This action was deplorable and needs to stop!

Neither vaccines nor masks are 100% but they both contribute to greater safety. You can't think in these binary terms. Anti-lock brakes, air bags, and seat belts all contribute to greater safety and yet someone can kill themselves pretty easily in a car that features all of them.

COVID has killed 1% of Americans 65 or over and 3% of Americans 85 or over. So it's not less than 1% for all groups of people. And even if you survive it, you could pass it on to someone who'll die from it. We have to think beyond first-level effects and second-, third- and other level effects. And that includes hospitals in some areas unable to provide adequate care for all those who come through the doors.

Oh, and one other thing. Do you really think that your survival rate for flying is less than 99.989%!?!?!?

4.5 billion passengers fly annually. Do you really think 4,950,000 (almost 5 million) die as a result of flying?
djames225
djames225 5
What is so wrong about people wanting to help others? ""When she came back and told me she couldn't find enough seating, I opted to stay in the bathroom because I did not want to be around others on the flight," Fotieo said."
I would agree with you if Icelandair said she had to stay, but she opted to stay.

I understand the whole sad matter and see what this lady did was simply so caring towards her fellow passengers, plus the flight Attendant was almost an Angel too. My only concern was that during landing she was at a huge risk should things have gone badly wrong!!!!
yehudamond
Yehuda Mond 1
No...you wear a mask and stop making a fuss. She shouldn't have tested herself on the flight anyway, what with a sore throat. She just created a mess for herself and the rest of the passengers are now panicking over nothing. She's the dictionary definition of an idiot, my friend.
yehudamond
Yehuda Mond 1
This passenger is an idiot and should have the word "Idiot" tattooed on her forehead as a PSA. Tested 2 PCRs and 5 rapids before the flight? Is she nuts??? Who's paying for all this? She's vaccinated (thrice!!) against a respiratory illness with mild symptoms and she (and CNN!!) is treating this as if we were still in March 2020. IDIOT!! Why did she test herself in mid-flight? and then she panicked because she was positive...Boy am I glad she's not in my life. What a loon.

Who makes this non-story a story???? CNN, who else. Karen stationed herself in the head, not anyone else. 5 previous tests showing negative, she has both jabs and the booster....oh and this was almost two weeks ago....thanks CNN for spreading more panic.

One more thing.....if she was that worried, maybe she should have opted to stay home.

Well she got her 3 hours of fame. Does anyone else think she played dress - up and only donned her mask & face shield while she took selfies?

Yeah, what a drama queen. Yup, her 3 hours of fame. I question her sanity.
