I find it a bit narrow-minded to talk about fleets as a national, patriotic requirement. Dutch KLM's fleet is mostly 777, 787 and 737. The few remaining old A330s are slowly disappearing. Lufthansa, Air France, BA, even the Russians use Boeings as much as Airbuses.

Seems like my post wasn't accepted so I will try again. I hope you pilots of the airbus don't mind but I prefer to fly a plane with an almost 100 year history made buy a free market company made in the US. Not a government produced plane from a 40 year company that the gear sounds like it is falling off the plane every time it is retracted! I think back to WWII, Europe would be Nazi Germany without Boeing and our American Pilots. I know this means nothing to you Elite pilots but it does to me. I will never fly delta and never have because they chose to dump American made planes for European planes. I'm simple but that is what I fell about Patriotism.

love the A350. Boeing needs to up it's game to compete and rewarding them for sub par performance is only going to hasten their demise.

One issue is that Airbus is government subsidized while Boeing isn't. Granted, the old McDonnell-Douglas suits have taken Boeing down a peg or two but it's hardly to compare a government subsidized company to a privately funded company.

There’s significant USA content in Airbus planes, and significant European content in Boeing planes. Delta revenues come from every country Delta serves. Conclusion: this binary buy-American-or-you’re-a-traitor construct ignores reality.

I share the emotional sentiment, but, the inability of Boeing to actually deliver airframes to operators the past few years 'at any price' has neutered their marketability.

Delta has an aging fleet for twin aisle aircraft and has operated on the 'used aircraft' bidness' model for years. What current Boeing will replace the 757/767,s they operate and the 777x/787 certification issues and snafus are not just industry scuttlebutt, but full blown legend now.

When AB certifies the A220-500, IMHO the ultimate goal for the 220 program at Bombardier, the Max is toast except in Seattle, Alaska Airlines HQ, SWA and Ryanair.

Oh well, The c-suites will get their bonuses, the mic will get their 'graft' and Boeing is TBTF and now located in Arlington VA. That's right next door to The money store of corruption! DC.

Excellent post. This order is really no surprise.

As most readers know, over the last few years Delta has "refreshed" their fleet with Airbus wide-bodies.
Including the newer A330 and plenty of A350. Delta's purchase of LATAM's A350s was also very telling.

Yes, Delta has committed to A220 in a big way. Personally, I'm not a fan of the GTF-powered airframes. Indigo, Air Baltic, and Swiss airlines come to mind.

Dig deep and you will read a tale of the first GA-GTF, the Honeywell, nee, Garrett TFE731-5 that met a similar introduction as well as the new Falcon 900 it was designed to power. Harmonic issues with the planetary set resulted in blown front frame, fan fails that grounded the fleet. An extra gear in the planetary set (from 4 to 5) solved the problem, at considerable expense and 'voila' the TFE731-5 became the TFE731-5BR and the Falcon 900 became the 900B. Don't waste your time on wiki, it ain't there.

Please tell me what corporations make their decisions based on where a product is finally assembled. None that are still in business!. I also suspect you have no data to support your statement about revenue sources for Delta.

I stated that Delta made their corporate decisions based on final assembly location 'nowhere' in my post, but, GM, Levi's, Apple, et.al. might ring a bell! Delta revenue sources are well known and in the trade they are known as PAX.

If one prefers to gaslight the community, at least do it from a frame of intellect.
