Delta Retires First MD-90 Ahead of Schedule

Delta has decided to retire their McDonnel Douglas aircraft early as Delta retires ship N902DA from service on the 23rd of June. Although there is no immediate action for the fleet of now 64 MD-90, Delta plans to do a three year drawdown on their 116 MD-88, which will be replaced by the massive order of 122 Airbus A321. For all you Delta fans out there that hadn't heard the news yet, Delta is adding an additional 10 aircrafts announced on Tuesday of last week. This brings the total number of orders to 122. Delta began the order in 2013, with 30 domestic narrowbody aircrafts, then again ordered additional aircrafts in 2014, and 2016 of last year. Just recently, Delta added 30 additional orders last month in May, and in Tuesday of last week ordered an additional 10 aircrafts to the order. As you all know, yesterday was the retirement of Etihad's last Airbus A340-500 as the quad jet performed it's final flight from Abu Dhabi to Rabat. Etihad's remaining 7 A340-600's will continue to fly until October 28th of this year. Etihad's General Manager Netherlands Jean Paul Drabbe mentioned in Luchtvaartnieuws Magazine earlier this year stated,"We want to invest in a uniform product, the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350,".
