A Royal Air Maroc Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner has impacted its right wingtip against the tail of a Turkish Airlines 777-300(ER) at Istanbul-Ataturk International Airport. The Triple-Seven aircraft suffered significant damage on the lower portion of the APU’s casing, as shown by pictures taken by Airporthaber in Istanbul. A video shows how the speeding Dreamliner clips its right wing against the 777’s tail, sending debris along the tarmac. This is the second wing-clipping incident that Turkish… (airwaysmag.com) Daha Fazlası...

What is this like the 6th or 7th issue of wings clipping each other on the ground this year???

I know right? You would think that ATC or the ground crew would have their eyes open.

I think they need to put cameras in the wing tips as well. It won’t fix a issue if your not looking st the monitor for them but it’s a start to resolve the issue.

The taxi speed is excessive, which means that other SOP's are probably being ignored and on crowded ramps the result is inevitable. Cameras are another distraction on a busy ramp. ATC has No role in this Christian.

Once upon a time airplanes didn't have winglets, and the big one went over the little one. No Mas.

Don't some of the Gulfstream's have winglets? I wouldn't call them big aircraft

Well this is true yes. But as aircraft get bigger they get heavier so they sit lower to the ground as well.

So william, my long awaited reply, the bigger they get, the longer they get, the longer they get the further the tail is from the main gear and the result would be a tail strike on takeoff or landing if they sit lower to the ground! The taper in the aft fuselage has a distinct purpose. If you rotate aggressively past 10 degrees, you get a tail strike. If you try to touch down at min. speed on a short runway you get a tail strike. Hence, they sit the way they sit, and no shorter.

I guess the APU was running which warranted the hose down?

The video shows it all. Too fast near the terminal ramps. You can see the ground crew trying to dodge flying parts.
