I can almost hear it! What stout landing gear. Great shot of an always-interesting airplane.

Robert, I could be wrong on this but my understanding was that the Brits wanted a jet that could operate in curfew hours into London's City airport and BAe came up with four small engines, supposedly quiet enough, and brisk performance. They are reasonably quiet landing, but there's hardly a quiet jet on take-off. However, I believe this met the requirement and as well of course, went on to be a very successful design.
