Douglas DC-3 (VH-TMQ)
on approach to Essendon airport at sunset, May 2018
Comments
Very good shot. This must have been one of the most successful aircraft ever, as more that 2000 of these World War II aircraft are still in service.
SHEER BEAUTY!!
Actually Leon, only 607 DC-3s were built (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_DC-3), though there were 10,174 C-47s. The Boeing 737 has achieved over 10,000 sales, which makes it the best selling commercial aircraft of all time.
I like this because it emphasizes the machine, i.e. engines and flaps and landing gear, of the DC 3. Great shot.
Actually, the DC-3 still has nearly 2,000 planes flying today. There are more than five versions of the DC-3 that were produced totaling more than 16,000 of these birds built worldwide. The actual number of the DC-3s still in the air is estimated by the Smithsonian Institute’s Aviation Museum.
