NEW YORK (AP) - A jury has found that a Minnesota airplane maker was not responsible for the crash of a small jet into a Manhattan apartment building that killed New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle and his flight instructor. The Manhattan jury returned its verdict Tuesday after a one-month federal trial. The jurors only began deliberations in the morning after closing arguments were completed and they were instructed on the law. Thank God this jury had some smarts. It's almost suicide to try and fly a fixed wing aircraft up the East River and turn around with violating the class B, or accelerated stalling and spinning into the river. The alternative is to fly over land, and unfortunately that's what happened. it's a shame for the families involved.

It still amazes me that trails such as these exist

Many times the plaintiffs hope the company will settle out of court rather than let the matter go to trial. However, based on the impartial NTSB findings, it looks like justice was done in this case.

We all know Cirrus' are fast, but not quite "jet" like, even tho the new SR22T can freakin scoot!

What a waste. These idiots actually thought it was the plane's fault???
Planes don't fly into buildings, the pilots controlling them do.
It amazes me what people will try to get away with for money.

The family members probably didn't know anything about the airplane, or the reputation of the manufacturer.

Justice is proportionate to your ability to afford it! Glad Cirrus went to the mat on this one.

yeah, really, "Jet". No, he was a Yankee.

Looks like they've corrected the language in the story on their website. It no longer says "jet," just "small plane."
And I don't understand how a lawsuit like this can get to court when the NTSB has already made a final report. That's pretty much gospel. Those crash investigators are very good at what they do.

In quite a few of these "product liability cases" there is probably a lawyer on a contingency fee so nobody has anything to lose but time. Indy2001 is correct here too. Something for nothing and Mike Furman is very correct in saying that "Planes don't fly into buildings, the pilots controlling them do".
