Air France Crash: Pilot Marc Dubois Reportedly Was Sleep Deprived

eklendi

On May 31, 2009, an Air France plane carrying 228 people from Brazil to France crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, killing everyone on board. It was one of the deadliest accidents in aviation history, and according to a recently disclosed judicial report, the pilot had only one hour of sleep. (jobs.aol.com) Daha Fazlası...

I have never really liked side stick aircraft. I have flown Cirrus SR22's on various occasions and hated the feel of it.

Well, in Sully's link and one of the initial reports, there was a big log time difference to the left seat, hence the opposite of senior. Just my slang. The left seat guy did give it to him.

There are always two sides to a story. Here is what Chesley Sully Sullenberger (who landed the U.S. Airways flight number 1549 into the Hudson River) has to say about about Air France flight 447.

Thanks for that video, Tom Duff. I've followed the AF 447 case for some time, and everything in the video, with Capt. Sullenberger, re-affirms my initial opinion. What has been most perplexing to me is WHY AirFrance did not have a "Flight With Unreliable Airspeed" checklist in their QRH?? Or, if there was, the WHY didn't the working crew refer to it?

Sounds to me like that if he only got 1 hour, I doubt it was the airlines fault; must have been his own and he was probably banking on that on board nap time coming. I really hate to see a rehash of 447 start up again after going thru the grinder 3-4 times already

Yeah, his lack of sleep had no bearing on the crash, it was his break. They said he took more than a minute to get up there after they called for help, that doesn't sound unreasonable to me. Lack of stick and rudder skills on the part of the two at the controls in my opinion...

Yeah, even Sully, in the link abouve, can't figure why they let the Jr right seat fly, nor why he kept the nose up. You can lay it on the Captain, but I'm like you, I don't think a minute is unreasonable. It kinda appears that they just didn't call him in time. Oh well, it has happened; they are all dead, and the blame game will go on for years.

If management didn't give themselves big raises and paid the pilots more this probably wouldn't have happened...

Shame on the captain for not sleeping enough, if he was tired, cancel the flight. Basic Go/no Go decisions. As for what happened, more training in the systems of the plane should be conducted, the Airbus is quite a different airplane.

As a former crew scheduler, if a pilot even gave a hint of fatigue, we would replace him/her or cancel the flight. Phone lines are recorded so management didn't want to take any risks. Had it happen a few times. Then again I started working there right after 4184 crashed in Indiana. In 1997 when the trials began, I had to gather crew info, like rest from the microfiche records we kept. Better safe than sorry.
