Qantas To Change Engines On Two A380s

eklendi

The number three engine on an A380, registration VH-OQC, will be changed after an inspection in Sydney found abnormalities including an oil leak, say sources familiar with the matter. Another Qantas A380 currently grounded in Los Angeles will have one of its engines changed due to unspecified problems. The abnormalities in the number three engine of VH-OQC could have potentially led to a repeat of Thursday's incident on QF32, sources say. (www.flightglobal.com) Daha Fazlası...

Sounding worse and worse for RR! I wont fly the 900 or 1000 series engines until they have figured out the problem AND have at least a years of service without another MAJOR incident. PERIOD! My money is on GE and the 777.

While I am no expert, I think RR has a major problem on their hands, as do every airline who has or will be getting A380's or Dreamliners with the faulty engines. In private, the carriers, RR and manufacturers must all be worried sick about how this will impact everything from production to passenger safety. Qantas and everyone else got lucky this time around, but will they be so lucky the next time the Trent 1000 or 900 engine blows up mid flight?

Frankly, if I were the carriers, A380's equipped with RR engines would be grounded until the investigation was completed and all the engines were replaced or determined to be safe. It is way too early to assume that is the case, even after an 8 hour inspection, as they are weeks or months away from knowing exactly what happened. And until they do, it is safe to assume those engines are NOT safe.

At least that is my humble opinion. Perhaps those stuck with the A380 should trade them in for the B773 instead.. :)
