Future of TSA Checkpoints (Photos)

(CNN) -- Billing it as a way to end the one-size-fits-all approach to airport security, the International Air Transport Association on Tuesday unveiled a mock-up of what it called the "Checkpoint of the Future." Instead of a single screening procedure applied to all fliers, the group envisions that passengers would be divided into risk categories based on the information available about them. They would then be directed to one of three lanes: "Known Traveler,"… (www.cnn.com) Daha Fazlası...

I wonder if this will be something whereby you could get "pre-approved" beforehand, (requesting background checks or whatever they wanted), so that you could go through the quick lane.

No one thinks "they" are an elevated risk...and most folks want to be "normal" and of course everyone knows who they are...
This idea won't "fly" either.

I don't like it. It's selective prosocution! Even though other nationalities are more likely to cause a threat who says a normal american that is a know travaler won't try something cause he has had a bad day? This is just a stupid idea. Everyone needs to be screened the same. I know we don't like it but it's the few who ruined it for the many as always. The tsa just needs to get some people that care about there job and country that will work hard and we will have fewer problems.

Well, right, wrong, or indifferent, somebody will protest it as racial profiling or something. Heck of it all is, if we get back to a common sense approach on this or anything else, about 85% are going to agree with it and 15% are going to be offended for some reason (or at least say they are). It seems like this country has gone in the direction of that 15% on a lot of things lately. Maybe it's time for the other 85% majority to start speaking out.IMHO

I agree Wayne. I'm not saying i'm offended by the idea. I think there could be a different way. I don't like the idea of giving our current government my life history just so I can go thru a quicker security line. We should all have to go thru the same one but the tsa just needs to do there job better and the ones from other countries should be checked better than us Americans. Like I said three different lanes dosen't mean your going to get all the terroist in one because as we know they will do or say anything to complete there task. So by having a line for regular passengers they will find a way to get in that one and still get things thru the check points.

10-4, it will be touchy, whichever way that it goes. Just shows you how the world has headed to hell in the last 20-25 years. Until Mr. Cooper came along, nobody thought about hijacking, and until 911, not that much thought was given to security. At the Iran Contra hearings when they scoffed at Ollie North cause he said he was afraid of Osama Bin Laden. Turns out that he had a right to be.

There are alot of "normal" people that carry threats. I have witnessed your average overweight housewife traveling with a gun, a mother and son traveling for Thanksgiving who was carrying brass knuckles, people in wheel chairs with weapons for personal protection, tasers, asps, stun guns, etc. Once you give certain people a pass, but select others for screening, the risk increases.

I don't understand why cigar cutters, knitting needles, small scissors (basically 2 knives attached), and cork screws are not considered threat items, but yet a dull knife is not allowed.

In my opinion, the regulations should be stricter, and I would feel safer on a plane.

Thank you! I usually get hate mail from my squawks! lol. I know security pretty well, and I thank our men in blue, our troops, and will undergo whatever it takes to arrive alive. Maybe it comes with age, or experience, but we need to thank the people we meet every day for the jobs they do.
