Air Force's hypersonic X-51 scramjet test fails

Do not despair Buddies . It's all a part of R n D . Remember Flying Machines didn't come about in a jiffy ! It took hundreds of years of imagination followed by hard work and plenty of 'failures'.

"An unmanned experimental aircraft designed to fly six times the speed of sound broke apart over the Pacific Ocean seconds into a military test flight due to a faulty control fin, the U.S. Air Force said on Wednesday."

Fin Failure Dooms Third X-51A Flight
A control fin that had functioned correctly on two previous flights malfunctioned on the Aug. 14 third flight of the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) Boeing X-51A Waverider, causing the hypersonic demonstrator to lose control before its scramjet engine could be ignited

The X-51A Waverider is being developed by the US airforce to fly at 4,600mph - six times the speed of sound. For its test flight, it will be dropped from a B52 bomber 50,000ft above the Pacific Ocean and should reach speeds that would see it fly from London to New York in an hour
