Grounded Volga-Dnepr An-124 at Toronto Pearson incurs huge parking fine

eklendi

TORONTO, CANADA — A Volga-Dnepr Antonov AN-124, which was seized as a response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, faces a huge fine for parking in the wrong place at the wrong time. The heavy cargo plane is stuck at Toronto Pearson Airport after the Canadian government banned Russian-owned or registered aircraft from using its airspace. (www.airlinerwatch.com) Daha Fazlası...

Just place the tickets under the windshield wiper, Russia will pay them like the good world citizen they are.

Eventually, this will be negotiated down to whatever is acceptable to both parties. It is not as though there is a shortage of available space at Pearson - the 124 is parked in a quiet area but is, interestingly enough, easily viewable from highway 27 for all to see. BTW, the aircraft is not a government asset. It was delivering COVID-19 supplies to Canada when it was at the wrong place at the wrong time (ie: legislated closure of the skies to Russian registered aircraft)

I hope Ukraine get the chance to build another Antonov An-225 Mriya.

That “Ship has sailed” Technically not feasible.

May be an emotional reason to build but unlikely that there is a reasonable reason to do so. That said, I understand there is another uncompleted airframe that could, with a few years work get to see the sky and address the national pride and limited commercial use.

The aircraft has not been seized but “frozen”. The Russian freight company still owns the plane. The creditor who freezes your asset and does not allow you to use it, the maintenance and parking fees have to be paid by the creditor.
In this case Transport Canada shall send the bill to Ottawa for payment.
The crew is at the charge of the Canadian government (return tickets if the crew is sent back to Russia or hotel and food for the crew if it considers the aircraft is at risk to be damaged and needs to be watched after.
If the crew is sent back to Russia, the responsibility of maintaining the aircraft belongs to Transport Canada.
Same issue with Russian oligarchs mansions and yachts on the Côte d’Azur in France. All the unpaid bills are sent by the municipalities to the French government for payment of unpaid utility bills and municipal taxes. They have to pay security guards to keep squatters and vandals out.
So in the end the local taxpayers are the victims.

Interesting - thank you for outlinig these consequences. But what´s their legal or contractual basis for your considerations?

The local Tax Payers are the Victims of all the stupid decisions made by the most uneducated, corrupt Leaders. They don’t care about the Tax payers. Time for the Tax Payers to rise up. This is a WEF reset! It is happening in front of our eyes.

$100k is what’s found in the seat cushions of a plane like this, I’d expect. The owners shouldn’t have too much issue working out a payment plan with the airport.
Getting it airborne again after sitting for months without being properly mothballed, however, may be the more expensive prospect. I’d wager the Ukrainian Antonov personnel would have to be engaged, so maybe that company will end up with a new (to them) aircraft, through some slick legal move by the Canadian govt…(Isn’t ICAO headquartered in Montreal? They would need to get involved, right, for a new registration to get it to fly out under a UA- tail number…)
This is a saga to keep an eye on as it evolves.
Funny things can happen between warring nations. (Like Russia bootlegging Boeing and Airbus parts)

I don't get it, but hopefully someone will jump in and explain this to me: How does it make sense to tell someone they absolutely have to leave an object where it currently resides, while at the same time tell them even though they can't move it, they must pay fines for leaving it there? It's a world gone mad.
djames225

See my comment below.
Volga knew of the NOTAM, but refused to listen to it or notify Transport Canada and resolve the issue long before landing there. They didn't want to listen and now must pay their parking tickets.
kevinkeswick
Yes a world completely mad when you consider that it was the Canadian government that chartered this Russian Cargo jet to fly badly needed COVID test kits from China to Canada and then 4 hours after it landed in Toronto the Canadian government declared Canadian airspace closed to Russian aircraft and seized (stole) the aircraft.

The Russian Volga-Dnepr An-124's have made many humanitarian flights during the last two years bringing badly needed PPP to Canada during the pandemic and this is how Canada repays this PRIVATE Russian company.

Of course judging from the comments on here most people are perfectly fine with this disgraceful act by the Canadian government whose deputy PM btw is the granddaughter of the biggest Ukrainian Nazi collaborator during WW2. Deputy PM Christia Freeland recently proudly marched behind a flag with Ukrainian Nazi symbiology on it (Banderite)

But Canada did not seize it. Simply put, Canada issued the NOTAM and so the flight authorization certificates were retracted for each and every Russian aircraft flight.

That's splitting hairs and you have to know that. You can quibble over technicalities and go "Nuh uh!" all you want. They waited until it landed then made it illegal and impossible for it to take off again. That's seizing the aircraft.

It's the same as if I waited until you parked in a parking lot and then erected Jersey barriers around all sides of your car. I can't just be a smug ass and say "No, I'm not holding your vehicle here, I just put my barriers down.".

Yes, I read his comments. That doesn't address what I said in the least. I never once said there was no NOTAM, or argued when it was issued or any other strawman you can build. Again, you folks are making the argument that the Canadian government policies don't equate refusing the aircraft taking off, it exists in a vacuum that is entirely in of itself and the aircraft is being held on the ground by other nebulous means. No, this is not true. For all intents and purposes the Canadian government has seized that aircraft. That is fact.

You people have allowed your "rah rah rah Russia bad, hate all Russians, etc." media obsession to cloud independent judgement. The absolute blinding hate and vitriol directed at absolutely anything Russian over the last few months I find sickening. Because someone points out that an action taken against a Russian is perhaps negative, you folks pile on to shit all over them and call them "Russian agents" or some other nonsense. I'm sure now, having said this, the neg brigade will show up and call *me* a Russian, but that's what it is.

Christ... turn your televisions/Facebook news feeds off for a while and come back to reality folks.
djames225
djames225 7
No where did I push any Russia bad BS. It is a simple fact. When a country, ANY COUNTRY, issues a NOTAM revoking the air flight/air worthiness certificates of certain aircraft, those aircraft are not allowed to fly again, within said country, until the certificate is either renewed or re-instated!! THAT is the plain and simple fact and NOT some Russian hate!!
djames225
djames225 5
"I never once said there was no NOTAM, or argued when it was issued or any other strawman you can build." In a roundabout way you did. "They waited until it landed then made it illegal and impossible for it to take off again. That's seizing the aircraft." No they didn't. Read what I stated below.

Not a humanitarian flight, it was a commercial flight. The company was paid full price for the flight. Just because the cargo contained medical supplies doesn't make it a humanitarian flight.

'Do they have no respect for international rule of law?' like the Russians respecting the sovereignty of the Ukraine nation?

'There has been a complete breakdown in the international rule of law'. Yes, and it happened on 24
FEB 2022. About four months before the aircraft was grounded.

'If you are a Russian company your assets can be seized for no reason at all.' If you are not a Russian nation your whole country can be seized for no reason at all.

'If you are a Russian billionaire you can have your private jet and yachts seized anywhere in the world even though you have done nothing wrong.' Please clarify your definition of having 'done nothing wrong'.

AFAIR, Volga=Dnepr was notified, of the pending NOTAM, before landing in Toronto. The Canadian Government did not seize it. It is not allowed to fly out due to the NOTAM.
And NO I am not ignorant to what is going on in Ukraine, but this is not a political propaganda site either.

You cannot read can you.
A: I said AFAIR, Volga-Dnepr, NOT the crew but the company, was notified of a pending NOTAM (Level 2). So was Aeroflot hence why they claimed on their Feb. 27 2022 early am flight plan, they were a "humanitarian flight" If I am an aircraft freight company exec. and I get notice of a pending NOTAM to the extent of "no your aircraft won't be allowed", I would get a hold of Transport Canada and rectify the situation beforehand, so my aircraft can leave when it is empty. It wasn't seized, it wasnt allowed to fly out under certificate revoction.

B:As for the link you posted about CNW, that is the time they reported it. Odd how CBC, and the Minister of Transport, announced it over 2 hours earlier AFTER it had gone in full affect.

ALL PREVIOUSLY OBTAINED AUTHORIZATION LETTERS FOR AIRCRAFT AFFECTED BY THIS NOTAM ARE HEREBY REVOKED. THIS RESTRICTION DOES NOT APPLY TO ANY AIRCRAFT FLYING IN ACCORDANCE WITH PERMISSION FROM CANADA’S MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT. AFFECTED AICRAFT WISHING TO OBTAIN AN AUTHORIZATION OR CLEARANCE INTO THE ABOVE-MENTIONED AIRSPACE MAY APPLY TO THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT AT 1-877-992-6853 OR 1-613-992-6853."

May I suggest that Canadians are more aware of the events in Ukraine and are much more likely to even know where Ukraine is located on a map than most? Based on your words, I have to ask if you get out much. Try reading the news. Absorb the facts and formulate a position based on reality. Or just shut up. Being a contrarian just for the sake of being different is sad.
