Ryanair refused to give £2,000 refund to 27 tourists who cancelled their flights
Ryanair has refused to give a refund to 27 British holidaymakers who cancelled their flights to Brussels while the Belgian city was under a terror lockdown. Maria Doolan, from Liverpool, had booked a weekend break to celebrate her 60th birthday with friends and family, but decided not to travel after the Belgian government raised the terror threat and asked residents to stay indoors and avoid crowded places. Predictable from Ryanair and the pax should have known better or got insurance. I would NEVER fly Ryanair. I have had excellent experience with EasyJet who are way less combative.
Ryanair is in the business of taking people's money, not giving it back. They usually have to fly the ticketed passengers after doing so, but any opportunity to avoid it will probably be taken. They may figure that the weight saved by those 27 non-fliers saves a bit on the fuel bill. Am reminded of the customer service rep Helen Waite. Problem resolution? Go to her.
People looking for the lowest bottom line and business caring only about their bottom line. Cheap versus greed. Common sense versus common business. It's predictable and sad.
What the hell did they cancel for?? No crowds, special attention at all the restaurants and bars, and plenty of protection.
The point here is that these types of lockdowns are becoming sufficiently commonplace that airlines are going to begin to treat them as a risk to the traveler.
No they won't. If the plane flies then their cancellation policies apply.
