Reports Suggest Airbus May Test Hydrogen Tanks On The A380
Recent reports have suggested that Airbus may be looking to its giant double-decker A380 to test out hydrogen tanks for its next-generation airliner. The manufacturer is backing hydrogen as its clean fuel of the future as the industry takes steps to address its commitment to the planet. (simpleflying.com) Daha Fazlası...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Hydrogen is a very clean burning fuel, but I'm not convinced that hydrogen fuel is a panacea for alternative fuels.
It's clean burning, and very explosive too. The tanks would have to be kept warm too to insure that there would be enough pressure at altitude to feed the engines. It can be 50 to 60 below zero, and colder, at altitude. They will have a lot to overcome to accomplish this goal. Plus look how popular hydrogen cars have been. Too soon? Stay tuned?
Not to mention maintenance cost on it, and think of the Fuel Trucks as well. It would have to be stored under pressure because it is a gas and doing all of that they may make a plane look worse than TWA 800!
